The July bridge is a Grade II listed bridge in the hamlet Mägdesprung the city Harzgerode belonging place Drahtzug in Saxony-Anhalt in the resin .
location
The bridge crosses the Selke and lies northeast of the Drahtzug, it connects the Drahtzug with the federal highway 185 running east of it . A hiking trail leads over the Julienbrücke from the Drahtzug to the cliff path , to the Köthener hut and to Harzgerode.
Architecture and history
A bridge was built at this point in the 18th century. The current bridge was built in the 19th century. It is designed as a single-panel arch construction, with the arch made of slate. The road to Mägdesprung led over them. The road layout was changed in the 1930s, and since then the road has only crossed the Selke about 100 meters further downstream. The bridge lost its original importance for traffic. In the past, the bridge still had cast iron railings with the writing Julien = bridge , but no longer preserved today .
In 1994 the bridge was damaged during a flood of the Selke. Demolition plans were not implemented after protests. However, the bridge, which was owned by the State of Saxony-Anhalt at the time, was not renovated. In 2000, the bridge was sold to private individuals from the country together with Drahtzug. On August 9, 2001, an association for the rescue of the Selketalbrücke at the Forsthaus Drahtzug / Harz eV was founded. The bridge is still in need of renovation (as of 2017) and is considered to be one of the last of these typical structures in the Selketal region.
In the local register of monuments , the bridge is listed as a monument under registration number 094 50087 . The list of monuments lists, presumably by mistake, a bridge built upstream near Alexisbad as the Julien Bridge.
