Stahlhammer (Harzgerode)
Stahlhammer is a district of Mägdesprung , which in turn belongs to the town of Harzgerode in the Harz district of Saxony-Anhalt .

Stahlhammer is located in the narrow Selketal in the Harz Mountains on the left bank of the Selke and consists of only a few buildings. The Selketalbahn runs through the village and maintains a maintenance stop in the small village of Drahtzug, a little further west . In addition, Bundesstraße 185 runs from Mägdesprung in the north to the south in the direction of Alexisbad through Stahlhammer. The Friendship Cliff is to the northeast over Stahlhammer .
history
In 1787 a steel hammer was built here as a forge that used the water power of the Selke. There were two water wheels that used the drainage ditch of the wire train as an upper ditch . Manufactured axes , scythes and plowshares . The forge later served as a chain forge and file cutting shop until operations were closed in 1896. In 1902 the steel hammer was demolished.
On the north-western slope of the valley, a single-storey row house with four entrances from around 1800 has been preserved as an older development. There is a staircase in front of the building and there are sheds at the back. In around 1902, an elongated, two-story apartment building was built on the opposite side. It is in the framework construction built and with a gable roof covered. The compartments are lined. At the back of the house is a utility building with a toilet facility.
The village is registered in the local register of monuments as a workers' house. In the village there is a Dennert fir tree on which the history of the steel hammer is explained.
There are holiday apartments in the village .
