Friedenskirche (Hemmingen-Arnum)

Friedenskirche

The Evangelical Lutheran Church of Peace in Hemmingen - Arnum was built in 1990/91 according to plans by Helmut E. Simon . This makes it one of the youngest new churches in Germany.

History and description

The church of Arnum had belonged to Wilkenburg for centuries and only took off rapidly after the Second World War with the “ bacon belt ” of Hanover . With the construction of the Friedenskirche, decades of makeshift arrangements and planning came to their destination.

The church is a successful attempt to create a sufficiently large and spiritually appealing space with limited financial resources. On the rectangle of the white plastered brick walls rises a glass upper floor, which is vaulted with a light, wing-like curved roof. Over the height of the vault, a narrow attic storey, open to the church, extends lengthways, which with its gable roof and clapboard windows is reminiscent of the raised central nave of a classic basilica . On the side of the altar, the outer wall curves out like an apse . The opposite entrance is integrated into the white, rectangular tower, which contains the bells in a lantern . This lantern takes the shape of the roof turret of the old Arnum fortified chapel , but also gives the tower the look of a lighthouse .

Inside, the expressive figure of Christ crucified, a work by Jürgen Weber , catches the eye . In front of it stands the altar connected to the baptismal font . With their wing shape, the lamps are reminiscent of doves of peace .

organ

The organ of the Elmar Krawinkel company was inaugurated in 2007. The slider chests -instrument has 13 registers on two manual stations and pedal . Given the acoustics of the church, the instrument is excellent fundamentals scheduled , early romantic organs along the lines of the region. A special feature is the double flute with two labels. The playing and stop actions are mechanical.
