background

Origin of the Church

The evangelical parish of Flensburg-Weiche became independent in 1954. Before that she belonged to the parish of St. Nikola . Hermann Hand became the first pastor. The services took place in the Heilandskapelle at this time .

In 1966/67 the Friedenskirche was built on a free hill east of Weiche for the larger parish. However, the planned surrounding residential area has not yet been implemented. After the construction of the new church, the Heilandskapelle was given up by the parish in 1968 and sold to the city.

Architecture and equipment

The church was built by Gerhard Langmaack as one of his last church buildings and thus forms his architectural "legacy". It consists of a white brick building with a heart-shaped shape, based on the biblical phrase: "God is love" ( 1 Jn 4:16  LUT ), and a white reinforced concrete tower with a cross at the top, visible from afar . The interior of the church is modern. The altar cross by Ernst Günter Hansing is particularly striking .

The parish until the end of the 20th century

Pastor Hermann Hand led the parish until 1976.

The church today

The architect Edgar Asmussen was responsible for the extension of the community center in 2001. The Evangelical Lutheran Kindergarten Flensburg-Weiche is also located near the church . The church is briefly and affectionately called "Frieda" by the parishioners. In 2007, the Church of Peace was the Monument Register entered the country.
