Frieder Gröger

Frieder Gröger (born June 15, 1934 - † December 6, 2018 ) was a German mycologist from Berlin . His official author's abbreviation is " Gröger ".

Life

Frieder Gröger worked as a teacher for 15 years before giving up his profession prematurely. He then earned his living partly as a district mushroom expert. He also worked as a freelancer, mostly as a writer. He also dealt with mushroom picking, the sale of the collected goods, flower growing and the sale of flowers and onions.

Gröger was instrumental in designing the “mycological information sheet Halle”, which was distributed to the mushroom experts in the GDR . In addition, he took an active part in the mushroom specialist journal “Boletus”, under which the two papers merged in the 1990s. Until he was 65 he proofread, edited manuscripts and did paperwork. At this point, his participation in the Federal Technical Committee for Mycology at NABU ended . From then on he concentrated on the development of determination tables. Initially planned as a “supplement to the journal for mycology”, the first part of his “Determination key for agaric mushrooms and boletus in Europe” appeared in 2006 as volume 13 of the Regensburg Mykological Writings. The second part followed in 2014 as Volume 17 in the same series of publications.

He was a member of the Mushroom Science Working Group Berlin-Brandenburg eV (PABB).
