Johannes Friedrich (Frieder) Schulz (born July 19, 1917 in Bruchsal ; † December 25, 2005 in Heidelberg ) was a German Protestant liturgical scholar .

Life

Frieder Schulz was the son of a pastor. Interrupted by his eight and a half year military service, he studied Protestant theology at the universities of Tübingen, Halle, Erlangen and Heidelberg. He was seriously injured in the Second World War. A time as a religion teacher and student pastor in Karlsruhe followed. Schulz took up his first pastor in Wiesloch . In 1955 he became rector of the Petersstift seminary in Heidelberg, then lecturer in practical theology at Heidelberg University . He was the representative of the Baden regional church for questions of worship and worked in liturgical committees at the regional church and EKD level.

Teaching

For the memorandum of the Assembled Congregation of the Lutheran Liturgical Conference of Germany (1974), Frieder Schulz designed a four-phase basic structure in which Luther's German Mass and the Upper German sermon service coincided. This model is based on the Evangelical Worship Book (1999). By merging the two classic liturgical traditions of the Reformation churches as complementary liturgies, Schulz created a concept that was equally attractive for the two clients of the Renewed Agende, the VELKD and the EKU .

Schulz saw his task also in integrating the liturgical developments of the 1970s and 1980s into the new agenda. The conception of the service book (keyword: "supple liturgy") is largely shaped by Schulz 'work.
