Soldiers' home

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Soldiers 'homes (sometimes called soldiers' leisure homes) are used in Germany to organize leisure time , to promote cultural , general educational , sporting , entertaining and sociable care for members of the Bundeswehr ( soldiers and civilian employees) and to maintain contact with the civilian environment. They are intended to contribute to the integration of the Bundeswehr into society and do not pursue any profit-making goals. The current 18 soldiers' homes are mostly outside of the military properties , but in their immediate vicinity.

offer

Soldiers' homes regularly offer restaurants and bars, outdoor areas, halls and conference rooms for training, meeting and party parties with conference technology, overnight accommodation, small cinema, theater, concerts, dance and variety events, play areas for children, skittles / bowling alleys, billiard tables, Darts and electronic leisure equipment as well as protected rooms for discussions.

A board of trustees consisting of representatives of the Bundeswehr, the military chaplaincy and the civilian population regularly plans events.

Sponsorship

Soldiers' homes are run under civil sponsorship and thus complement the employer’s care offer . The supporters are the Evangelical Working Group for Soldiers Care (EAS), the Catholic Working Group for Soldier Care (KAS) and the German Caritas Association . The federal government bears the costs of the construction and renovation of the buildings .

history

Until the mid-1980s, at least 40 soldiers' homes were built in the entire area of what was then the Federal Republic. After the end of the Cold War and the associated reduction in the Bundeswehr, many soldiers' homes were also closed.
