Friedhelm Biestmann (born June 16, 1949 in Damme ) is a German politician. Until 2008 he was a member of the Lower Saxony state parliament .

Life and work

After primary school, Biestmann attended the agricultural vocational school in Lohne. He then did an agricultural training in Herzlake, attended the agricultural college in Vechta and passed his master craftsman examination. At the age of 21, he took over his parents' business in 1970 and has been working there ever since.

Biestmann is Roman Catholic and has been married since 1977. He has three children.

Since 1968 Biestmann was a member of the rural youth and the young union . Since 1981 he has been a member of the district council and since 1991 deputy district administrator in the district of Vechta . From 1986 to 1996 he was councilor of the Neuenkirchen-Vörden community . Since 1994 he has been a member of the Lower Saxony State Parliament. Biestmann has been deputy chairman of the CDU regional association in Oldenburg since 1995. 1996–2006 he was a board member of the CDU in Lower Saxony. He is a member of the Federal Agricultural Committee and chairman of the State Committee for Agricultural Policy / Rural Areas. Biestmann has been deputy chairman of the CDU parliamentary group in Lower Saxony's state parliament since 2001 . In the 2003 state elections, Biestmann received 73.3 percent of the votes cast as a direct candidate in the Vechta constituency. This was by far his best election result as a candidate for the state parliament. Biestmann could not run as a direct candidate for the 2008 state elections because he had previously lost a runoff election by the CDU district association Vechta against Stephan Siemer .
