Friedrich Nietzsche Prize

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Friedrich Nietzsche Prize was awarded by the State of Saxony-Anhalt between 1996 and 2012 in honor of the poet and philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche for a German-language essayistic or scientific work on philosophical subjects and questions and has been continued as the International Friedrich Nietzsche Prize since 2015 . Until 2006 it was awarded every two years, since then it has been awarded every three years, alternating with the Wilhelm Müller Prize and the Georg Kaiser Prize . The prize is endowed with 15,000 euros. It is awarded on the basis of suggestions made by a jury. The prize has been sponsored by the Friedrich Nietzsche Foundation , the City of Naumburg , the Elisabeth Jenny Foundation and the Basel Community since 2015 .

Even before the Hegel Prize (prize sum 12,000 euros), the Ernst Bloch Prize (prize sum 10,000 euros) and the Karl Jaspers Prize (prize sum 5,000 euros), the Friedrich Nietzsche Prize is the highest-endowed award in Germany that exclusively is awarded for philosophical-essayistic works. In contrast, the Theodor W. Adorno Prize (prize money 50,000 euros) is awarded not only for philosophy but also for achievements in the fields of music, theater and film.

In 2014 the Ministry of Culture of Saxony-Anhalt decided to discontinue the Friedrich Nietzsche Prize , the Wilhelm Müller Prize and the Georg Kaiser Sponsorship Prize in favor of an annual Klopstock Prize for new literature . Since then, the Friedrich Nietzsche Prize has been continued by the City of Naumburg , the Basel Civic Community, the Elisabeth Jenny Foundation and the Friedrich Nietzsche Foundation . Since 2015, the prize has been awarded alternately in Basel and Naumburg. The winner of the new International Friedrich Nietzsche Prize is determined by a seven-member jury.
