Klopstock Prize

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Klopstock Prize for New Literature is the state of Saxony-Anhalt's highest award in the field of literature. Since 2015 the prize has been awarded annually by the state's minister of culture. Current German-language works (novels, poetry, drama, travelogues, essays) or the complete works of an author as well as up-and-coming authors are honored for outstanding publications. The “Klopstock Prize for New Literature” includes a main prize as well as a sponsorship prize for an author related to the state.

Naming and awarding

The State Literature Prize is named after the important epic poet, poet and dramatist of the Enlightenment and most important representative of sensitivity, Friedrich Gottlieb Klopstock, who was born in Quedlinburg in 1724 .

With the award of the unified state literature prize , the previously alternating awards of Friedrich Nietzsche Prize , Wilhelm Müller Prize and Georg Kaiser Prize were replaced by the "Klopstock Prize for New Literature". (The Friedrich Nietzsche Prize will, however, be continued by the Friedrich Nietzsche Foundation in Naumburg.) With the realignment, the state followed a recommendation from the Cultural Convention. The literature prize is endowed with a total of 12,000 euros. The Klopstock Prize is awarded by the Minister of Culture on the basis of a proposal from a jury formed for this purpose. It is not possible to apply for the literature prize.

In addition to the main prize, the Klopstock Prize (3,000 euros) is awarded to a young author who has attracted nationwide attention with a literary debut publication and has a biblical or biographical reference to the state of Saxony-Anhalt.
