Friedrich Anton August Lohrmann (* around 1735 possibly in Berlin ; † around 1800) was a German painter in Danzig and Warsaw .

Life

Berlin

Lohrmann came from Berlin. He studied at the Royal Prussian Academy of Arts there with Blaise Nicolas Le Sueur and his successor Bernhard Rode .

Danzig

From 1759–1773 he lived in Danzig , initially in the service of the Prussian resident Johann Andreas von Junk. He published views of Danzig and the surrounding area with the engraver Matthaeus Deisch and created other pictures.

Warsaw

In 1773 or 1774 Lohrmann came to Warsaw . There he served until 1776 in the rank of captain with the Russian General Avraam Ivanovich Romanius. Together with the royal valet Franciszek Ryx, he helped take over the Warsaw Theater from Prince Sułkowski. In 1778 he worked in Leszno near Warsaw. From 1779 Lohrmann remained in the service of King Stanislaus II August Poniatowski with a salary of 10 ducats per month.

He drew and painted in gouache the Łazienki Castle (1779–1783), the ceremonial lighting of Warsaw (1781), the fire in the Praga district (1782), astronomical phenomena (1782 and 1785), as well as well-known characters from the Warsaw milieu, such as the dwarf Józef Boruwłaski with his wife (1780), the general Tadeusz Kościuszko (1794) the Italian count Alessandro Cagliostro u. a. In addition to the large-format oil paintings, he also painted miniatures. He portrayed the actors in the Bogusławski Theater.
