Friedrich August Baumbach
Friedrich August Baumbach (born September 11, 1753 in Gotha , † November 30, 1813 in Leipzig ) was a German composer , conductor and music writer. He also made a name for himself as a singer, pianist and mandolin player .
Baumbach was baptized in Gotha on September 12, 1753, but can only be traced back to Hamburg in 1777. Baumbach initially worked there as Kapellmeister of the Hamburg State Opera from 1778 to 1789; in between he traveled to Saint Petersburg via Riga for two years in 1780 , before working in Riga and Moscow for the following years . From 1790 he lived in Leipzig until his death.
Baumbach's work includes six piano sonatas, songs with piano or guitar accompaniment, cantatas and various compositions for solo guitar, including a rondo. One of his songs, Die Forelle , served in all probability as a template for the famous song of the same name by Franz Schubert .
