Friedrich Bernhard (Pfalz-Gelnhausen)

Friedrich Bernhard von Pfalz-Birkenfeld-Gelnhausen (born May 28, 1697 in Gelnhausen ; † August 5, 1739 ibid) was Count Palatine and Duke of Zweibrücken-Birkenfeld zu Gelnhausen .

Life

Friedrich Bernhard was the eldest son of Duke and Count Palatine Johann Karl von Birkenfeld-Gelnhausen (1638–1704) from his second marriage to Marie Esther (1665–1725), daughter of Baron Georg Friedrich von Witzleben zu Elgersburg.

He followed his father in 1704 in the Birkenfeld Deputat Gelnhausen. Friedrich Bernhard was in French military service and was a colonel in the Royal Alsace Regiment. Friedrich Bernhard was a knight of the Palatinate Order of Hubert . In a contract with the Zweibrücken guardian Karoline in 1736, Friedrich Bernhard was granted an allowance of 12,000 guilders.

Since his marriage remained without male heirs, his younger brother Johann followed him as head of the Gelnhausen line .

Marriage and offspring

Friedrich Bernhard married on May 30, 1737 in Arolsen Ernestine Luise (1705–1782), daughter of Prince Anton Ulrich von Waldeck and Pyrmont , a daughter of his cousin Luise . From his marriage he had the following children:

  • Luise Karoline (born January 22, 1738 - † May 26, 1782)
  • Ernestine Auguste Friederike (February 17, 1739 - September 16, 1746)
