Karl Friedrich Bethmann , actually Gütschow ( May 22, 1796 in Rostock - September 10, 1846 in Greifswald ) was a German theater actor and director .

Life

Bethmann was the son of a master baker who absolutely couldn't stand that his son wanted to turn to dramatic art. But the love for her had already taken root so deeply in the youth that he secretly joined a traveling company, with whom he worked as an extra and in small roles (1813 to 1815).

Finally he got better engagement in Strelitz . He made his debut there on November 25, 1818 as "Peter" in "Roses of the Lord of Malesherbes" and was lucky enough to be very pleased. He stayed there until 1821, then worked for a short time in Dessau , then in Magdeburg and then in Weimar , and in 1823 became a member of the theater in Sondershausen .

In 1825 he joined the Association of the City Theater in Bremen , whose direction he was given after a short time. He carried out stage affairs with prudence and undertook numerous guest tours with his company, crowned with financial and artistic success. In 1832 he gave up the management of the Bremen city theater after he was given the management of the theater in Rostock , which he also took over and opened in that year. As before, he also knew how to gain recognition from the public and critics.

Bethmann died in Greifswald on the Schlag River and was buried in the old cemetery there.
