Friedrich Brauell

Friedrich August Brauell (born December 11, 1807 in Weimar ; †  December 10, 1882 in Leipzig ) was a German veterinarian and university professor.

Career and professional activity

Brauell studied veterinary medicine in Jena and Berlin and then worked as a veterinarian in Allstedt . In 1834 he received his doctorate in Erlangen , went to Vilnius in 1837 and finally to the Kazan University in 1841 . In 1846 he was appointed associate professor here (after a third examination as a veterinarian in St. Petersburg) and from 1848 he held a professorship at the veterinary institute in Dorpat , where he remained until 1868. In 1870/71 he gave courses as a full honorary professor at the University of Leipzig.

From 1857 onwards he published two important papers on the anthrax bacilli discovered by Aloys Pollender in 1849 .
