Friedrich Eisenbrand

Friedrich Eisenbrand (born July 3, 1971 in Quiigart , Saarland ) is a German mathematician and computer scientist who deals with algorithmic discrete mathematics , for example with integral linear programming , combinatorial optimization and algorithmic geometry of numbers.

Eisenbrand studied mathematics and computer science at Saarland University , where he obtained his diploma in computer science in 1997 ( factor refinement in quadratic number fields ) and received his doctorate in 2000 at the university and at the Max Planck Institute for computer science under Alexander Bockmayr ( Gomory-Chvátal cutting planes and the elementary closure of polyhedra ). The dissertation, which solved a fifteen year old problem by Alexander Schrijver , received the Otto Hahn Medal of the Max Planck Society in 2001. He was then a junior researcher group leader (discrete optimization) at the Max Planck Institute for Computer Science in Saarbrücken, where he completed his habilitation in 2003 and was visiting professor at the Indian Institute of Technology in Delhi in 2004 . In 2005 he became professor of computer science at the Technical University of Dortmund and from 2006 to 2008 he was a full professor of mathematics (chair for discrete optimization) at the University of Paderborn . Since 2008 he has been a professor at the École polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL). He was selected for an Alexander von Humboldt Professorship in 2011 and subsequently accepted a professorship at the Technical University of Berlin , which he left after six months in 2012.

In 2004 he received the Heinz Maier-Leibnitz Prize from the DFG. In 2014 he was invited speaker at the ICM in Seoul .

Thomas Rothvoss is one of his doctoral students .
