Friedrich Gennrich

Friedrich Gennrich (born March 27, 1883 in Colmar , † September 22, 1967 in Langen (Hesse) ) was a German musicologist and Romance philologist .

life and work

Gennrich studied musicology in Strasbourg with Friedrich Ludwig and Romance philology with Gustav Gröber , and in Paris with Joseph Bédier . He earned his doctorate with (ed.) Le Romans de la dame à la lycorne et du biau chevalier au lyon. An adventure novel from the first third of the 14th century (Halle a. S. 1908) and worked as a high school teacher, first in Strasbourg, from 1919 in Frankfurt am Main. There he completed his habilitation in musicology in 1927 and in Romance studies in 1929. From 1934 to 1964 he was an adjunct professor at the University of Frankfurt am Main and published numerous research results himself. His extensive estate was acquired by the Frankfurt University Library in 1980.
