Friedrich Goldschmidt
Johannes Friedrich Goldschmidt (born February 20, 1837 in Berlin ; † June 13, 1902 there ) was an industrialist and a member of the German Reichstag .
Life
Goldschmidt was the son of the textile manufacturer Eduard Goldschmidt ; his mother was a daughter of the State Councilor Gottlob Johann Christian Kunth . He attended the Pädagogikum zu Charlottenburg (formerly Cauersche Anstalt ) and the Kölln high school in Berlin. He worked as a chemist in a laboratory, then in calico factories in Berlin, Mulhouse and Manchester . In 1862 he went to North and Central America for a commercial apprenticeship and was director of Brauerei-Aktien-Gesellschaft Friedrichshöhe, formerly Patzenhofer , from 1871 .
On December 19, 1882, at a meeting in his apartment in the headquarters of the Patzenhofer Brewery A.-G. together with Armand Knoblauch (1832–1905) from the Bohemian Brewery , Richard Roesicke (1845–1903) from the Schultheiss Brewery and the then head of the experimental station of the Association of Alcohol Manufacturers , Professor Max Delbrück (1850–1919), the research and teaching institute for the brewery in Berlin, of which he was chairman from 1894 to 1902.
From 1879 to 1889 he was also first chairman of the Berlin Craftsmen's Association. He was also a commercial judge at the District Court I in Berlin from 1879 to 1883 and a member of the elders' college of the Berlin merchants since 1885.
In 1864 he became a Landwehr officer and as such participated in the wars of 1866 and 1870/71 . He received the Iron Cross and retired from service as a captain .
Goldschmidt was a member of the Prussian House of Representatives from 1882 to 1887 and from 1889 to 1893. He was also a member of the Reichstag from 1881 to 1884 and from 1887 to 1893, first for the Liberal Association , then for the German Liberal Party .
In 1880 Goldschmidt published a biography of his grandfather Gottlob Johann Christian Kunth, which he had written together with his younger brother, high school professor Paul Goldschmidt .
