Friedrich Graetz
Friedrich Graetz (born April 3, 1842 in Frankfurt am Main as Friedrich Georg Graetz , † November 28, 1912 in Vienna-Simmering ) was an illustrator and caricaturist .
Life
Graetz studied art in Frankfurt am Main under Eduard von Steinle . In 1867 Graetz came to Vienna , from there he moved on to Budapest . From 1870 he drew for the magazine Kikeriki . In 1875 Graetz moved to the satirical weekly magazine Floh . Both magazines were printed by the Johann Nepomuk Vernay publishing house . In 1881 Graetz was recruited by Joseph Keppler for the popular US magazine Puck in New York . A few years later, family obligations forced him to return to Germany. In Berlin he drew for the Berlin magazine Funny Leaves . In 1892 Graetz left the Berlin publishing house and returned to Vienna. There he drew for various magazines, including for Figaro and from 1896 for the workers' newspaper Neue Glühlichter . He drew until the end of his life and died in poverty. Friedrich Graetz was buried on December 15, 1912 in Vienna-Simmering in the Evangelical Cemetery.
