Friedrich Haider (folklorist)
Friedrich Haider (born April 3, 1921 in Pettnau , Tyrol ; † January 29, 2009 ) was an Austrian folklorist, traditional researcher and radio worker.
Life
Friedrich Haider attended school in Pettnau and Innsbruck . He did military service and was taken prisoner by the English until August 1945. He then studied history, geography, folklore and art history at the University of Innsbruck , and received his doctorate in 1951 with a dissertation on the history of the first 25 years of the Tyrolean farmers' union. He worked as a community secretary and operated the re-establishment of the Volksbühne Pettnau, whose game director he later also became. He was a founding member of the Landesverband Tiroler Volksbühnen, editor of the Tiroler Bauernzeitung and publisher of the Tiroler Bauernkalender. From 1952 to 1982 he worked full-time at ORF - Radio Tirol as the main speaker for folk culture with a focus on regional studies, customs , folk drama and dialect poetry . He designed almost 8,000 radio programs.
