Friedrich Ivan

Friedrich Iwan (born August 8, 1889 in Landeshut , Lower Silesia , † 1967 in Wangen im Allgäu ) was a German painter and graphic artist .

From 1903 to 1908 he studied at the Royal Art and Applied Arts School in Breslau (from 1911 Art Academy ) under Carl Ernst Morgenstern . He later studied graphic techniques with Hans Mayer at the Berlin Art Academy .

In 1921 he moved to Krummhübel ( Riesengebirge , Lower Silesia), from 1924 until 1945 he lived in Hirschberg .

He drew attention to himself with his idiosyncratic etching technique , in which he used steel, pen and color. His etchings with Giant Mountains motifs, and especially his winter motifs, made him popular, so that his motifs were also widely used on postcards. He was also known for his bookplate Designs.
