Friedrich Jorns - 1900

Friedrich (Fritz) Jorns (born September 20, 1837 in Katzenstein near Osterode am Harz , † August 18, 1910 in Osterode) was a German copper works owner and national liberal parliamentarian.

Life

Jorns came from a family of copper mill owners. His father was Johann Friedrich Jorns (1796–1855), his mother Auguste Amalie Jorns, b. Greve (1806-1880). After elementary school and Progymnasium in Osterode, he attended the private institute Anhagen in Hanover . He then studied at the Bergakademie in Berlin . As a specialist in copper hammer forging, Jorns then worked in various German and one English plants.

Together with his brother Gustav Adolf Jorns (1830–1901), Jorns initially continued the family business together. The brothers split up because of differences of opinion. The brother founded his own copper factory in Hanover. From 1872 Jorns was the sole owner of the Jorns Kupferwerk company in Osterode. He expanded the company by two hammer streets. Jorns Kupferwerk supplied roofing copper plates for numerous well-known buildings. The Jorns brothers carried out the contract for the copper work on the Hermannsdenkmal near Detmold together.

In his birthplace Katzenstein he was a member of the municipal council. In Osterode Jorns was a new citizen from 1876, from 1889 mayor, from 1895 mayor-word holder and from 1897 also a member of the district council.

Jorns was a member of the Prussian House of Representatives as a National Liberal Member from 1894 to 1908. He was also a member of the Reichstag from 1893 to 1898 and again from 1900 to 1908.
