Friedrich Kreilmann

Friedrich Kreilmann OSB (born April 30, 1719 in Erwitte ; † September 16, 1786 ) was abbot of the Grafschaft monastery from 1765 until his death .

Life

Kreilmann entered the Grafschaft monastery in 1737 and made his profession in 1738 . In 1740 he was appointed sub-deacon , in 1741 the deacon ordained and in 1743 a priest. In 1754 Kreilmann became pastor of the Altenrüthen parish belonging to the monastery . On September 10, 1765 he was elected abbot.

At the beginning of his term of office, the building of the church in Altenrüthen, which had begun eleven years earlier, was completed. He managed to pay off most of the monastery's debts. He enforced a strict discipline in the community and attracted many students. Shortly before his death, the large new farm and farm buildings were completed. He was on friendly terms with the hereditary bailiff of the monastery Lothar Clemens Ferdinand von Fürstenberg. In 1784 Archbishop Maximilian Franz of Austria visited the monastery for several days on a visitation trip . Kreilmann was buried in the crypt of the monastery church. There is a portrait of him by Anton Joseph Stratmann .
