Friedrich Lohmann (judge)

Friedrich Wilhelm Lohmann (born February 13, 1929 in Minden ; † January 3, 2009 ) was a German lawyer and presiding judge at the Federal Court of Justice .

Life

Lohmann came from a family of pastors with many children. He abandoned his initial desire to become an engineer and decided instead to study law at the University of Bonn . After the two state exams, which he passed in Cologne and Düsseldorf in 1951 and 1957 , he joined the judicial service of North Rhine-Westphalia . Here he was appointed as a judge at the regional and higher regional courts . In 1961 he was promoted to regional judge, in 1967 he was promoted to higher regional judge at the OLG Hamm . In the same year he was appointed full-time member of the State Judicial Examination Office, to which he belonged for three years. In 1970 he was appointed to the Ministerialrat in the Ministry of Justice of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia , where he was responsible for training and examinations.

In April 1974 he was appointed judge at the Federal Court of Justice. There he was initially the III. Assigned to the civil senate, whose competence extended to public liability and expropriation compensation claims as well as building land matters . In 1980 he took over the deputy chairmanship of the IVb civil senate responsible for family matters , which from 1990 as XII. Civil Senate was named. In 1982 he succeeded Heinz Grell as chairman. During his tenure, the Senate had to deal in particular with the effects of the 1977 marriage law reform. Numerous further legal decisions were made on this, which also influenced the reform of the Maintenance Amendment Act in 1986. Lohmann was also a member of the Cartel Senate. When he reached the age limit, he left the Federal Court of Justice in 1992. After the end of his judicial career, he appeared as a lecturer at advanced training events for lawyers and judges.

The script he wrote "New case law of the Federal Court of Justice on family law: maintenance and pension adjustment" appeared in eight editions from 1982 to 1997. In addition, Lohmann acted as co-editor of the journal for the entire family law and was a member and councilor of the Scientific Association for Family Law .
