Friedrich Mauthe

Friedrich Mauthe (born June 2, 1822 in Schwenningen ; † February 2, 1884 ) was a German entrepreneur and watch manufacturer .

Friedrich Mauthe worked as a bookseller and general store. In 1844 he and his wife Marie (née Kienzle) founded a company in Schwenningen, later called Friedrich Mauthe GmbH , which initially produced watch parts, watchmaking tools and accessories. From 1850, Black Forest clocks were also sold from the domestic home trade . From the end of 1860, the production of own movements for wall clocks began.

His sons Christian (1845–1909) and Jakob (1847–1915) took over the management of the family business in 1876 and expanded the range. In 1896 they acquired the Villa Mauthe in Lochau.

The son of his wife's brother was Jakob Kienzle , for whom he took over the guardianship when he lost his father at the age of three months.
