Friedrich Muhl

Friedrich Muhl (born March 16, 1732 in Danzig , Polish Prussia , † January 21, 1797 in Danzig, West Prussia province ) was a German long-distance merchant and councilor in Danzig.

The family on his father's side came from Hamburg . Grandfather Jacob emigrated to Amsterdam , father Abraham Muhl received citizenship in Gdansk in 1712. There he married the Dutch woman Constantia Mulhem called Hagedorn. Friedrich Muhl learned the trade from his father. From 1762 to 1763 he was in the Netherlands and other Western European countries.

In 1765 Muhl received the citizenship of the city of Danzig. In 1767 he opened a wine trade with his brother Abraham, who had received his father's inheritance, with its headquarters in Brotbänkengasse, since 1779 at Langen Markt 14 (442).

Friedrich Muhl was chairman of the reformed parish of St. Peter and Paul since 1766, chairman of the reformed parishes of Danzig since 1772 and of all reformed parishes of the remaining Polish Prussia since 1784. In that year he was also a lay judge in the law town and in 1792 a councilor. In 1793 he was involved in redesigning the city's administrative structures under the new Prussian rule.

Friedrich Muhl owned several estates and properties in Gdansk and the surrounding area, including a summer residence in Langfuhr and the house Langer Markt 1 (423), one of the city's finest houses, in which Polish kings had previously been quartered. He amassed an important collection of paintings and engravings.

Friedrich Muhl was married to Johanna Florentina, a daughter of the Polish pastor and author Paul Świetlicki . They had seven children
