Friedrich Posch

Friedrich Posch (born October 8, 1840 in Zara (now Zadar), † June 29, 1916 in Klagenfurt ) was mayor of Klagenfurt.

Friedrich Posch studied law and was brought in to Zwischenwässern by Gurk Bishop Valentin Wiery as administrator of the diocese . His permanent residence was Klagenfurt. He began to be interested in public relations, became a councilor and deputy mayor of Klagenfurt in 1890, and two years later mayor.

The telephone relocation approved in 1891 failed due to the resistance of the house owners, who did not tolerate roof stands. From December 1, 1894, “weather telegraphs” were sent daily to the naval observatory in Pula .

The Klagenfurt theater experienced one of its heydays under director Franz Eglseer (1849–1938) and there was a lot of construction activity - Amalienhof, Carinthia, many private buildings in “Neu-Klagenfurt” (between today's Bahnhofstrasse, Mießenaler Strasse and the Südbahn). The hospital and the observation tower are built. The "drumming out" of city news has been abolished. Friedrich Posch had even bigger plans for Klagenfurt: a new slaughterhouse, a renovation or new construction of the town hall, a new cemetery and, above all, electrical energy, but failed because of the financing through borrowing, which was rejected by the local council. Posch then resigned in 1896 and was only a committee member of the Kärntner Sparkasse from 1900 to 1904.
