Friedrich "Fritz" Rafreider (born February 24, 1942 in Dornbirn ; † September 16, 2007 there ) was an Austrian national soccer player . He became famous in particular for his winning goal to 1-0 against the Soviet Union in 1961 in Moscow, which meant the first home defeat of the then European champions in six years.

career

Friedrich Rafreider was an agile player with good ball control, who especially knew how to shine as a left winger. He grew up at FC Dornbirn in 1913 , which he joined when he was eleven in 1953. With the Dornbirn fighting team he achieved his first major successes as a football player, because after winning the relegation against Kremser SC as Arlberg champion , he rose with the club in 1960 for the first time in its history in the A-League . In the 4: 2 in the first leg in Krems, Fritz Rafreider scored three times, in the second leg, which took place in front of the then Vorarlberg record crowd of 12,000 spectators, a 2: 3 was enough for promotion. Fritz Rafreider scored 16 goals for Dornbirn in his debut season in the A-League, but the club had to be relegated again after one season.

Despite being second class, the Vorarlberg footballer found a way into the national team : In the famous Decker era, he made his debut in front of almost 92,000 spectators in the Prater Stadium on May 27, 1961 in a 3-1 win over England . He also scored on his next outing in a 2-1 win against Hungary in Budapest and scored the famous winning goal in a 1-0 win against the Soviet Union in Moscow. In front of almost 100,000 spectators in the Lenin Stadium , Fritz Rafreider was cleared by Rudi Flögel and defeated the Russian goalkeeper Vladimir Maslatschenko with a jack. After the Austrian defense withstood all attacks and Gernot Fraydl also saved a penalty from Valentin Ivanov , the sensational victory was perfect.

Thanks to this good performance in the team, the Vorarlberg resident was able to play a total of fourteen times for Austria internationally until 1963, although his club was only second class. In 1963 the Dornbirner finally managed to rise again to the top division, but in 1964 they went back to the regional league . This time Rafreider decided to switch to a renowned first division club, and he was now playing at the Vienna Sport Club . The left winger could not win any major titles in Dornbach, but took part in the UEFA Cup in all three years . After another Vorarlberg club made it into the Bundesliga in 1967 with SC Schwarz-Weiß Bregenz , Rafreider tried to support them again, but only managed to stay up for one season. In 1969 he was from FC St. Gallen brought to Switzerland, where he in his professional career in 1976 National League A ended.

Rafreider died unexpectedly on September 17, 2007 at the age of 65 of heart failure in his home in Dornbirn. The journalist Roman Rafreider is his nephew.
