Friedrich Schwab

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Friedrich Schwab (born December 25, 1912 ; † July 27, 1992 in Lugano ) was a German businessman and entrepreneur .

In 1954 Friedrich Schwab founded Schwab-Versand in Klein-Auheim near Hanau. The limited partnership Friedrich Schwab Überlandversand became one of the four most important large mail order companies in Germany in the mid- 1960s . The attempt to set up a chain of department stores, however, was unsuccessful and overwhelmed the company's financial resources. In 1966 the family company was converted into a stock corporation and taken over by the US Singer Company. Friedrich Schwab remained CEO until 1967 . In 1969 he withdrew completely from the company for a severance payment of 9 million DM; the protest of the small shareholders against the amount of this compensation had no consequences. Today Schwab-Versand GmbH is a company of the Otto Group .
