Friedrich Specht (born May 6, 1839 in Lauffen am Neckar , † June 12, 1909 in Stuttgart ) was a German animal painter , sculptor and lithographer .


He received training at the Stuttgart Art School . As an animal and landscape painter , he mainly illustrated zoological works and animal books.

He was the leading illustrator of the third edition of Brehm's Animal Life . His brothers were the wood cutter Carl Gottlob Specht and the animal painter August Specht .

For Adolf Gnauth he modeled the lion's head on his war memorial in 1870/71 in the Fangelsbach cemetery in Stuttgart . The monument was erected in 1874. It has not survived.
