Friedrich Stuhr

Friedrich Wilhelm August Heinrich Stuhr (born July 19, 1867 in Schwerin ; † January 24, 1945 there ) was a German archivist and historian .

Life

Friedrich Stuhr was born in Schwerin in 1867 as the son of the teacher Heinrich Stuhr (* 1833) and his wife Marie (* 1844). After visiting the school Fridericianum in Schwerin he studied from 1887 philosophy at the University in Rostock . In 1891 the doctorate followed in Berlin with the topic: "Organization and rules of procedure of the Pisan and Constance Council".

Stuhr's working life began in his hometown in 1892. He began as a research assistant in the Mecklenburg Secret and Main Archive in Schwerin. A steady rise followed: 1895 regular laborer; 1897 archivist; 1909 councilor of archives and 1921 acting director. He was appointed director of the archive in 1923. From 1926 until his retirement in 1933, Stuhr was State Archives Director. In 1891 he became a member of the Association for Mecklenburg History and Archeology , and he was also a member of the Mecklenburg Heimatbund. In 1928, as archive director, Stuhr was one of the founding members of the historical commission for both Mecklenburg . During his tenure, the scientific commission for the publication of the Mecklenburg record book was under his direction and responsibility. From 1920 to 1936 he was editor of the Mecklenburg Yearbooks of the Society for History and Archeology. Friedrich Stuhr died at the age of 78.
