Friedrich Vellguth

Friedrich Vellguth (born July 28, 1905 in Hamburg ; † September 5, 1989 in Berlin ) was a German architect and university professor .

Live and act

Friedrich Vellguth studied architecture from 1924 to 1926 at the Technical University of Hanover, today's Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz University . From the 1920s to 1930s he worked in the studios of Wilhelm Riphan in Cologne, Hans Poelzig in Berlin and Walter Gropius , also in Berlin. From 1928 to 1931 he attended the Technical University Berlin-Charlottenburg, today's Technical University Berlin , and received his diploma from there . From 1935 to 1945 he was department head in the construction management of Berlin-Tempelhof Airport .

In 1947 he followed the call of the then Hochschule für Bildende Künste, today's Berlin University of the Arts , to its art education department. The chair changed its name several times, called "projection", "bound drawing" or "building and form theory", for a while the term "bound drawing / projection theory" was used. He made numerous studies on medieval churches and took part in competitions and projects. Examples of his work: Reconstruction Magdeburg (1949); City Hall, Berlin-Kreuzberg (1951); Skyscraper on Lietzensee , Berlin-Charlottenburg (1951); Stadtbad , Frankfurt am Main (1954); City Theater , Gelsenkirchen (1954); Hansaviertel , Berlin-Tiergarten, urban planning (1955); High-rise company Phoenix-Rheinrohr , Düsseldorf (1956); Development of prefabricated steel houses (type houses) and various single-family houses in Berlin (from 1962).

After his retirement in 1970, he accepted further teaching positions at the University of the Arts.

He owned an extensive library with a focus on architecture and art history . He also gave lectures on art history in scientific societies , some of which were illustrated with photographs. He was also a member of the Berlin Committee for UNESCO Work. V. active from 1969 to 1974 as treasurer , then as deputy chairman.
