Friedrich Wilhelm Suckow

Friedrich Wilhelm Ludwig Suckow (* 1770 in Heidelberg ; † June 21, 1838 in Mannheim ) was a German doctor and naturalist. Its official botanical author's abbreviation is “ FWL Suckow ”. He was the son of the natural scientist Georg Adolf Suckow and the nephew of the physician Wilhelm Karl Friedrich Suckow .

Life

The son of the physicist and university professor Georg Adolf Suckow studied medicine at the University of Heidelberg and received his doctorate in 1813 with a thesis on the comparative morphology "Myologia insectorum ...".

Suckow became professor of natural sciences and curator at the natural history museum in Mannheim. He has made a name for himself primarily with his work on entomology and the osteology of whales . He also depicted the flora in the Mannheim area.

In 1822 he became a member of the Leopoldina .
