Friedrich von Westhoff

Friedrich von Westhoff (* 1611 in Lübeck (?); † 1694 probably in Dresden ) was a German Rittmeister , lutenist and trombonist .

Life

Westhoff was Rittmeister in the service of King Gustav Adolf of Sweden. Elector Johann Georg I of Saxony employed him as a chamber musician in the Dresden court orchestra, initially as a lutenist, but later switched to the trombone . He held his position in the court orchestra until the reign of Johann Georg III. (1680-1691). Westhoff was the father of the composer and violinist Johann Paul von Westhoff .
