The monument area on Friedrichsstraße includes house numbers 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 8a, 9, 10, 11, 12, 14, 15, 16, 17 and 18.Although house numbers 2, 3, 5, 12, 14, 15 and 18 are part of the monument area, these buildings are once again under monument protection.

Schwedenstein

The Schwedenstein is a memorial stone to the Swedish king Gustav II Adolf , who fell against Catholic troops in the battle of Lützen in 1632, was brought to the escort house in Weißenfels after his death and was laid out there.

The memorial stone was erected on the occasion of the 300th anniversary of his death. It is a boulder placed on a base with a bronze relief of its head and an inscription. This is 1632 1932 Gustav Adolf . Such a boulder once stood at the place of death of the king until a real memorial, the Gustav Adolf Monument , was erected there. The memorial stone was designed by Erich Haase . The bronze relief was donated by the residents of the Swedish city of Boras and made by the Swedish sculptor Johnssen. The unveiling of the memorial stone was carried out by the then Crown Prince and later King Gustav VI. Adolf and his wife Louise Mountbatten .
