Fritz Arendt

Fritz Arendt (born June 4, 1888 in Berlin ; † August 18, 1915 ) was a German classical philologist and high school teacher.

Life

Fritz Arendt, the son of the sinologist Carl Arendt , attended the Pforta state school and studied classical philology and German at the Berlin University from Easter 1907 to Michaelis 1910 . He passed the state examination on May 23, 1911 with distinction; He did not complete a doctorate . Instead he served from October 1, 1911 to September 30, 1912 as a one-year volunteer with the 3rd Thuringian Infantry Regiment No. 71, where he became a corporal on July 1, 1912 and a non-commissioned officer and reserve officer aspirant on September 29, 1912 was appointed.

On October 1, 1912, Arendt started the seminar year at the Joachimsthal School in Templin . At the same time he became an adjunct at the institution. During this time he worked in the editorial department of the magazine Sokrates and wrote an extensive article on Archimedes for the Realencyclopadie der classical antiquity on behalf of Wilhelm Kroll , which appeared in the third supplement volume (1918). With this he added to the outdated article by Friedrich Hultsch (1895).

When the First World War broke out , Arendt volunteered. He fell on August 18, 1915.
