Life

Eckerle came from a family of winegrowers in the Palatinate and studied law in Würzburg , Gießen and Munich from 1895 . He was a member of the Corps Rhenania Würzburg and Teutonia Gießen . After graduating as Dr. jur. he settled in 1912 as a notary in Hofheim in Lower Franconia. He later moved to Bamberg. As a writer, he wrote poetry, dramas and prose works between the First World War and his untimely death in 1925, most of which were published by Bamberg's Parnaß-Verlag.

In front of the cemetery in Siebeldingen in the Palatinate is a plaque with a poem by Fritz Eckerle:

“There you are,
your back on the sun-warm earth
and five more shoes above you.
And evergreen guards their peace,
the roses cover stones and names,
deep down the river is a silver trail.
But all around the graves,
a sea of green vines floods ;
it takes its course from the
plains and surges high up the blue mountain.
This is how it should be in death as in life:
what you love is about you, the wine.
Sleep well, you vine-happy fathers mine! "
