Fritz Ermarth (also: Ermath ; born November 4, 1909 in Karlsruhe ; † July 27, 1948 ) was a German lawyer and first director of the military station Radio Stuttgart .

The son of the state actress Melanie Ermath (1881-1948) studied law and economics at the University of Munich , the University of Berlin and the University of Heidelberg from 1928 to 1931 . He started his legal clerkship in the Baden state service, but was dismissed in 1933 after the seizure of power because the Nazis accused him of being a member of a democratic party, the SPD. He emigrated to the USA at the age of 24 .

In the USA he was able to complete a new course of study and received a doctorate in Dr. phil. He managed to become a professor at the University of Oklahoma . He later worked in the American Federal Service, Economic Planning and Social Security Bureau of the President.

In 1945 he returned to Germany. In the summer of 1946 he succeeded Fritz Eberhard as a domestic political commentator at Radio Stuttgart in the US zone of occupation . On June 13, 1947, the American occupation forces appointed him the first German director of Radio Stuttgart. On November 7, 1947, Ermarth resigned after the Americans did not approve his personnel proposals for the further expansion of the station.

Then he worked in the Ministry of Economics of Württemberg-Baden . He was also secretary of the Working Group for German Unity . On July 27, 1948, Fritz Ermarth committed suicide . In an obituary from the Spiegel magazine on July 31, 1948, Ermarth's death was maliciously commented on. A week later, Ermarth's mother Melanie also passed away voluntarily. When the Spiegel became aware of this, on August 7, 1948, it took the opportunity to describe the remarks of July 31 as erroneous assumptions.
