Fritz Feldmann (musicologist)

Fritz Feldmann (born October 18, 1905 in Gottesberg , † September 29, 1984 in Hamburg ) was a German musicologist.

life and work

Feldmann studied musicology in Breslau from 1924. In 1932 he received his doctorate with the study "The Codex Mf. 2016 of the Musical Institute at the University of Breslau" (2 volumes, Breslau 1932). Feldmann initially worked as a research assistant at the musicological institute and as a teacher for the history of music at the church music school in Breslau. In 1937 he completed his habilitation with the thesis "Music and Music Maintenance in Medieval Silesia" (Breslau 1938). From 1939 to 1941 he was the deputy director of the Musicological Institute and the University Institute for Church and School Music in Wroclaw.

After being drafted and served in the Second World War, he worked as a teacher in Hamburg from 1948 to 1952. In 1952 he completed his habilitation at the local university and became a professor. In 1954 he also became a professor at the State Music Academy in Hamburg .

Feldmann mainly worked on topics related to the musical history of Silesia. He also examined the relationship between Silesian music history and that of the rest of the German cultural area.
