Fritz Frischknecht

Fritz Frischknecht (born July 11, 1893 in Waldstatt ; † July 24, 1983 in Herisau ; resident in Herisau) was a Swiss painter from the canton of Appenzell Ausserrhoden .

Life

Fritz Frischknecht was a son of Johann Frischknecht, a small farmer and sturgeon butcher , and Anna Maria Schefer. After the early death of his father in 1904, Fritz Frischknecht worked as a contracting boy and from 1909 as a farmhand . He then worked as a smallholder in Schwellbrunn and a factory worker in Herisau. In 1923 he married Ida Tribelhorn. In 1946 he gave up farming and moved to Herisau, and in 1961 he retired.

From 1958 Fritz Frischknecht worked as a stylistically independent mountain painter . The main features of his pictures are the cropped horizons, the emphasized graphic effect of the paths between the farmsteads and the attention to detail.
