Georg Leonhard Schläpfer

Georg Leonhard Schläpfer (born May 17, 1766 in Speicher , † September 1, 1840 in Neukirch an der Thur , today municipality of Kradolf-Schönenberg ; resident in Speicher ) was a Swiss textile entrepreneur from the canton of Appenzell Ausserrhoden .

Life

Georg Leonhard Schläpfer was a son of Johannes Schläpfer . In 1793 he married Anna Hirzel, daughter of Hans Caspar Hirzel. From 1785 to 1791 Schläpfer stayed in Genoa . Then he joined his father's textile business . After his father's death, he continued to run it until 1802. His business partner ran the Genoese branch under the name Georg Schläpfer e Vigo . From 1797 to 1798 and from 1805 to 1831 Schläpfer was councilor in Speicher. In 1819 he was one of the founders of the Speicher savings bank. Until 1840 he worked as their treasurer and was solely responsible for the savings. In 1820 he was a co-founder of theSolar society store . He was president of this first reading society in Ausserrhoden.
