Johannes Schläpfer (entrepreneur)

Johannes Schläpfer (* 14. November 1725 in memory ; † 26. March 1802 ibid ; heimatberechtigt in memory) was a Swiss textile manufacturer from the Canton of Appenzell Outer Rhodes .

Life

Johannes Schläpfer was a son of Ulrich Schläpfer, councilor, and Anna Sturzenegger. In 1762 he married Anna Barbara Gonzenbach, daughter of Georg Leonhard Gonzenbach, Junker and court lord . Until 1765 he was the head of the Genoese branch of the Schläpfer brothers' textile trading company . This belonged to Matthias Schläpfer and Jakob Schläpfer from Speicher. However, he was not related to them. Schläpfer founded his own trading company with branches from 1764 in Lyon and from 1765 in Genoa. He ran the latter with his previous Genoese assistant A. Vigo as a partner. In the years 1770 to 1771 he built a department store with finishing in Speicher. In 1792 he bought his former partner's office building in Speicher. From 1767 to 1897 he was a councilor in Speicher. His son Georg Leonhard Schläpfer continued to run the trading company after Schläpfer's death.
