Fritz Grillitsch (born July 13, 1959 in Judenburg ) is an Austrian farmer and politician ( ÖVP ). From 2002 he was a member of the Federal Council and from December 2002 to November 2017 he was a member of the National Council .

education and profession

Fritz Grillitsch attended elementary school from 1966 to 1970 and then the general education college in Judenburg. In 1977 he moved to the upper secondary school in Murau , where he passed his Matura in 1980.

Grillitsch worked as a revision assistant at the Raiffeisenverband from 1980 to 1982, after which he graduated from the agricultural and forestry technical school Grottenhof-Hardt by 1983 . He has been a farmer and forester since 1982.

politics

Grillitsch was involved in the Young People's Party in his youth and was the local chairman of this organization in Fohnsdorf from 1979 to 1981 . As a result, Grillitsch was very active in the Austrian Farmers' Union and in the Chamber of Agriculture . He has been a board member of the Styrian Farmers' Union since 1995, Deputy Chairman of the Styrian Farmers' Union since 2000 and was President of the Austrian Farmers' Union from 2001 to 2011. In addition, Grillitsch has been a member of the Chamber of Commerce for Agriculture and Forestry since 1991 and its vice-president since 1998.

Within the party, Grillitsch has been the regional party chairman of the ÖVP Styria since 2000. He represented the ÖVP from January 22nd, 2002 to December 9th, 2002 in the Austrian Federal Council . Grillitsch then moved to the National Council, to which he has been a member since December 20, 2002. In 2002 he was elected deputy chairman of the ÖVP parliamentary club and currently holds a mandate for the Styrian electoral district.

After he invited Thilo Sarrazin , who had come under criticism for his book Germany Abolishes Itself, to give a lecture at the Land Forum at the end of September 2011, protests also broke out within the ÖVP. On November 10, 2011, the 52-year-old resigned as President of the Farmers' Union and Vice-Club Leader of the ÖVP in parliament and announced that he would keep the National Council mandate until the 2013 legislative period expired. His successor at the head of the farmers' union was Jakob Auer .

In the legislative period up to 2013 he was a member of the following committees: Main Committee; Immunity committee; Standing Subcommittee of the Main Committee; Agriculture and Forestry Committee.

Private

Fritz Grillitsch is the father of three daughters from his first marriage and one son. He lives in Wasendorf near Fohnsdorf . The mother of his son is the former FPÖ / BZÖ politician Magda Bleckmann . Grillitsch has been married to the district chief of St. Veit / Glan Claudia Egger since 2014.
