Fritz H. Frimmel

Fritz Hartmann Frimmel (born November 24, 1941 in Triebitz , Sudetenland ), mostly Fritz H. Frimmel for short , is a German chemist. Since 1987 he has held the chair for water chemistry and water technology at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (formerly TH Karlsruhe ) ( Engler-Bunte-Institute ). He was also the head of the DVGW research center for the field of water chemistry, which is based at the Engler-Bunte-Institute.

Career

Frimmel studied chemistry from 1961 to 1970 at the Technical University of Munich , where he received his doctorate in 1970 . He was then a postdoctoral fellow at University College Dublin until 1971. Immediately afterwards, from 1971 he was initially a lecturer, then from 1981 professor at the Institute for Water Chemistry at the Technical University of Munich with Karl-Ernst Quentin , where he stayed until 1987. In 1983 he was a research fellow in the Department of Environmental Sciences and Engineering at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill .

From 1987 he held the chair for water chemistry at the TH Karlsruhe, today's Karlsruhe Institute of Technology. His research areas were mainly in water technology and the chemistry of humic substances .

In 2004 he received the Willy Hager Medal .

  • Member of the Senate Commissions for Affairs and for Approval of Collaborative Research Centers of the German Research Foundation (DFG).
  • Spokesman for the Scientific Advisory Board of the Gottlieb Daimler and Karl Benz Foundation since 2006
  • Deputy speaker of the Karlsruhe University Society (KUG) since 2004
  • Head of the German-Russian College in Karlsruhe (DRKK) from 1995 to 2006
  • Board member of the International Academy for Sustainable Developments and Technologies (IANET): 1999 to 2006
