Alcoholic solution

An alcoholic solution refers to the solution of any hydrophobic substance, often an organic substance, in ethanol .

On the basis of their solubility, substances are divided into two groups: hydrophobic ("water-avoiding"; e.g. oils ) substances and hydrophilic ("water-loving"; e.g. salts such as sodium chloride ) substances.

The use of alcoholic solutions is of particular practical importance in the food and pharmaceutical industries . Often the ethanol used is - viewed closely - not 100% pure. The solvent almost always contains a certain amount of water.
