DJ Rashad (real name Rashad Hanif Harden ; born October 9, 1979 in Hammond , Indiana ; † April 26, 2014 in Chicago , Illinois ) was an American DJ , musician and record producer who was an important representative of the Chicago "footwork" style was true.

Life

Rashad was born in Indiana and grew up in Calumet City . As a child he was an avid dancer. Soon afterwards he also started DJing and had his first appearances around 1992. In 1996 he met his longtime companion DJ Spinn at Thornwood High School . Both soon developed a taste for the ghetto house style.

In 1998, Child Abuse, one of his tracks, appeared on a vinyl single on Dance Mania under the name DJ Thadz . From 2004 his productions appeared on the Juke Trax label . He became internationally known in 2010 after Mike Paradinas (µ-ziq) had licensed two of Rashad's pieces for the compilation Bangs & Works Vol. 1 and published them on his label Planet Mu . Numerous appearances in the UK and other countries followed, as well as first releases on British labels such as Honest Jon's Records . A contact with Kode9 led to the first release on the Hyperdub label , with which Rashad and his Teklife crew continued to work closely in the years to come. In 2013, Hyperdub released the highly acclaimed Double Cup album .

Shortly before the release of the new single We On 1 , Rashad died in his Chicago apartment, presumably as a result of a drug overdose. He left behind his nine year old son.
