Kode9 (* 1974 in Glasgow as Steve Goodman ) is a Scottish electronic music artist , DJ and one of the first dubstep performers . He is the founder of the Hyperdub label and, together with dubstep producers such as Skream , Benga and Hatcha, is considered one of the pioneers of the genre.
Career
He started with the UK garage , jungle and drum and bass genres , as did many other dubstep producers of the time. His music includes influences from, among others, dub and dancehall . In 2004 he founded his own label Hyperdub in London , where artists such as Burial , Ikonika and King Midas Sound later released. In 2010 he mixed an album from the DJ-Kicks series for the Studio K7 label .
Goodman holds a Ph.D. in Philosophy from the University of Warwick .
