Fritz Haber (aerospace engineer)
Fritz Haber (born April 3, 1912 in Mannheim ; † August 21, 1998 in Westport , Connecticut , USA ) was a German-born aerospace pioneer.
Life
He was the older brother of Heinz Haber , the "television professor" for space topics. Both brothers spent their childhood near the Mannheim planetarium in the Lower Luisenpark, where they found inspiration for their future careers. Her father Karl Haber was director of Süddeutsche Zucker AG (now Südzucker ).
Fritz Haber went to school in Mannheim and studied in Darmstadt . He then worked for the aircraft manufacturer Junkers in Dessau . Because of the birth of his son, he traveled from Central Germany to the West and was "recruited" there by the Americans, like his brother Heinz, after the war ( Operation Overcast ). With around 200 scientists, including Wernher von Braun , they went to the USA to do further research.
Fritz and Heinz Haber invented the parabolic flight with which NASA prepared its astronauts for the weightlessness of space flight. The transport equipment "piggybacked" goes back to an idea of Fritz Haber: On the back converted jumbo jet carried the NASA their space shuttles from landing site in California back to the launch site in Florida.
After two marriages, Fritz Haber left two sons.
