Fritz Koch (born March 12, 1956 in Villach ) is a former Austrian ski jumper and Nordic combined athlete.

Career

Fritz Koch began cross-country skiing as a child . While still at school, he increasingly concentrated on Nordic combined . As a teenager, he won numerous Austrian junior championships in cross-country skiing and Nordic combined . In 1977 in Schwarzach / St.Veit he won the Nordic Combination of Austrian Masters, which was not very popular in Austria at the time, and four more titles were to follow. He achieved numerous top placings in Nordic combined and was already a participant in the 1976 Winter Olympics in Innsbruck. After a disappointing performance at the World Championships in Lahti in 1978 , he switched to ski jumper.

Koch was admitted to the National Executive of the Austrians in 1980, and jumped on 10 February 1980 at the French Saint-Nizier his first World Cup competition. Already in his first competition he was able to achieve his first 12 World Cup points with a 4th place and finished in 62nd place in the overall World Cup ranking. For the 1980/81 World Cup season he was part of the World Cup squad. After the first jumps as part of the Four Hills Tournament 1980/81 were unsuccessful, he was able to climb onto the podium for the first time in Ironwood after a sixth place in the first ski flying competition, in the second flight with third place. However, it was his only career podium finish. After a 13th place in Thunder Bay , he was able to jump into the top 10 again in Chamonix and St. Nizier. At the end of the season he finished 19th in the overall World Cup with 46 points. After the season, Koch ended his active ski jumping career.

Since the end of his sports career, he has been active as a sports teacher and trainer at the main ski school in Feistritz an der Drau .
