Fritz Löwe (* 1874 ; † March 4, 1955 , actually Karl Friedrich Löwe ) was a German physicist and specialist in optics at Carl Zeiss in Jena .

Life

Löwe studied physics , mathematics , chemistry and geology in Leipzig and Berlin from 1894 and received his doctorate in Leipzig in 1898 ( experimental study on the electrical dispersion of some organic acids, esters and ten types of glass ) and was then an assistant at the Physics Institute. From 1899 he was at Carl Zeiss, where he was initially trained in precision mechanics and optics with a view to technical skills. From 1904 he headed part of the measuring instruments department. From 1914 to 1918 he did military service in the First World War . From 1927 to 1954 he was head of the optical measuring equipment department at Carl Zeiss in Jena. From 1945 he also had a teaching position for physics at the University of Jena and in 1954 he was appointed professor there. After the Second World War, he rebuilt the measuring instruments department at Zeiss and in 1954 received the award for Outstanding People's Scientist . He wrote several chapters in the Handbook of Physics by Geiger / Scheel. In 1926 he was elected a member of the Leopoldina .
